MotionTracking™ Devices

Overview

Today, many customers are forced to incorporate discrete motion sensor components such as gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetometers to deliver 9-axis Motion Interface functionality. Selection, qualification and integration of discrete motion sensors to deliver Motion Interface functionality are complex and costly. Furthermore, delivering Motion Interface using raw output from multiple discrete sensors requires development and incorporation of a complex set of sensor fusion algorithms, calibration firmware, and performance testing prior to shipment of the devices to market. Our 9-axis MotionTracking™ device incorporates a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis magnetometer, along with our field-proven MotionFusion™ and run-time calibration firmware provides a turn-key solution that eliminates all challenges with incorporating a Motion Interface solution.

Emerging mobile applications such as location based services and gesture recognition require much higher performance, than the more common use of motion for gaming applications. Our 9-axis MotionTracking™ device delivers on these performance challenges, with an integrated solution, which eliminates the device alignment, latency, temperature variation, and provides for a guaranteed 9-axis specification for high performance applications.

MPU-9150: The World’s First 9-Axis MotionTracking™ Device

The 9-axis MotionTracking™ device is a game changer which meets the market needs for performance and fast time to market. It is a 9-axis integrated MotionTracking™ device that incorporates our single chip 6-axis product (3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope) and the leading 3-axis eCompass. The 4x4x1mm 9-axis device also incorporates InvenSense’s unique and patented Digital Motion Processor™ (DMP) hardware accelerator with MotionFusion™ and run-time calibration firmware. The combination of our patented calibration algorithms and a simple to use APIs for third party software developers results in the world’s first complete turn-key Motion Interface solution.

MotionTracking™ Device Advantages

There are numerous advantages of the 9 axis MPU-9150 MotionTracking device over a discrete sensor solution. Among these advantages are:

  • Guaranteed sensor to sensor functional axis alignment and calibration at the chip level. This alignment eliminates cross-axis errors that typically contribute to performance degradation.
  • Highest overall performance
  • Factory calibration of complete solution at system level
  • Smallest package size
  • Lowest system level power consumption for motion interface functionality
  • Simplified inventory and procurement
  • Higher system level reliability
