Motion sensors are used in industrial applications such as Platform and Antenna Stabilization, Precision Robotics, Inventory Control Systems, Survey Instruments, Factory Equipment, Industrial Power Tools, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Precision Agricultural Machinery, Guidance and Steering Applications, and Construction Equipment.
These applications are characterized by harsh environmental conditions where extreme temperature ranges, and severe shocks are present. Industrial motion sensors are required to handle such conditions while providing highly accurate results and low system power consumption.
Invensense family of Industrial motion sensors consists of MPU-3300 3-axis gyroscopes, ITG-31Nx 3-axis gyroscopes, and MPU-61Nx 6-axis devices.
MPU-3300 is the world’s first single-chip, digital-output, 3-axis MEMS gyroscope optimized for industrial applications. Until the arrival of the MPU-3300, industrial product designers were required to select and integrate three separate single-axis gyroscopes which require additional work to place, align and calibrate. The MPU-3300 addresses this challenge by providing a factory calibrated, high performance, monolithic 3-axis gyroscope in a small 4x4x0.9mm QFN package to simplify placement, alignment and calibration tasks.
The ITG-31Nx family consists of the ITG-31N1, ITG-31N2, and ITG-31N3 3-axis gyroscopes. These devices build up on the MPU-3300, offering users a variety of options representing different types of performance suited for different industrial applications. The ITG-31Nx devices are housed in 4x4x0.9mm QFN packages that are pin compatible with the MPU-3300.
The MPU-61Nx family consists of the MPU-61N1, MPU-61N2, and MPU-61N3 6-axis devices. The devices combine a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on the same silicon die together with an onboard Digital Motion Processor™ (DMP™) capable of processing complex MotionFusion algorithms. The parts’ integrated MotionFusion algorithms access external sensors allowing the devices to gather a full set of sensor data.
