About Our Embedded MotionApps™ Platform

The Embedded MotionApps Platform software and the companion 9-axis MotionTracking™ devices from InvenSense provide a complete solution to embedded system developers that delivers 10-axis MotionFusion™ data encompassing 3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass for Microcontroller-based environments

The on chip Digital Motion Processor (DMP) contained within the MPU device can generate 6-axis quaternion data, which is the fused data of the accelerometer and the gyroscope. With the addition of a compass and our Embedded MotionApps software library 9-axis fused data can be achieved.

The Market

Yole Developpement, market research firm, projects the revenue for combo motion sensors such as inertial measurement units (IMUs) is expected to rise to $1 billion in 2014, up from $600 million in 2013. By 2018, Yole forecasts that combo sensor revenue will amount to $2.4 billion. Increasing by 4x over that 5 year period.

The new wave of wearable computing will leverage the proliferation of combo sensors as Juniper Research projects retail revenue from smart wearable devices will reach $19 billion by 2018, compared with $1.4 billion in 2013. The firm also projects that sales of smart wearable devices will approach 130 million units by 2018, which is 10 times higher than the number sold in 2013.
